Plumbing / HVAC Inspector

The Idaho Division of Building Safety is looking for a Plumbing / HVAC Inspector to conduct commercial and residential inspections in the South Central Idaho area.
The inspection area covered by this position includes that part of south central Idaho roughly between the cities of Ketchum in the north, Twin Falls in the south, Gooding in the west, and Burley in the east. The specific city this position will be based out of will depend on the residence of the successful applicant.
This is a full-time position with full state benefits. The anticipated work schedule is 40 hours per week, with some occasional overtime required.
To be considered for this position, applicants must be licensed as a Journeyman Plumber in Idaho and have at least five years of plumbing experience in accordance with Idaho Code, Section 54-2627. Additional certifications to conduct plumbing and HVAC inspections will need to be obtained within 1-6 months of hire (see below).
Temporary appointments may be made from this announcement, and after serving at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service may be hired as an entrance probationary employee without further examination for the same classification and location as announced.
Inspectors with the Division of Building Safety are prohibited from being engaged directly or indirectly, or financially interested, in any business, trade, practice, or work, or the sale of supplies related to the trade in which the Inspector is assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION:
Conducting inspections or reviews of activities, including determining compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and laws;
Providing technical advice and assistance in best practices and corrective actions;
Overseeing implementation of safety codes, regulations, and laws;
Conducting on-site inspections, investigating complaints, and seeking compliance with regulations and safety standards;
Assembling and preparing background information and documentation regarding noncompliance activities, code violations, safety reviews, and licensure discrepancies;
Providing technical expertise to building officials, building representatives, contractors, and the public;
Assisting management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES OF THIS POSITION:
Walking throughout the day;
Driving a state vehicle throughout the day;
Crawling in and out of confined spaces, including attics and crawl spaces;
Climbing series of stairs in multi-story buildings;
Climbing ladders up to 14 feet high;
Moving building material weighing up to 50 pounds.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Licensure as a Journeyman Plumber in Idaho and five years of plumbing experience in accordance with Idaho Code, Section 54-2627;
Experience interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications;
Experience analyzing data and operating a personal computer to generate written reports;
Possession of a valid driver's license.
DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
Although these certifications are not required at the time of hire, having any of these certifications may improve your standing as an applicant. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to obtain all these certifications within 1-6 months of hire.
Certification as a Plumbing Inspector through the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Obtaining this certification will be required within 30 days of hire.
Certification as a Residential Mechanical Inspector through the International Code Council (ICC). Obtaining this certification will be required within six months of hire.
Certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector through the International Code Council (ICC). Obtaining this certification will be required within six months of hire.
